This website is about the GOAN Christian Community of Pakistan. Every Goan has ancestral roots in Goa, India, formerly a Portuguese colony. All Goans of Pakistan are predominantly Catholic. Although the 'Christian Community of Pakistan' has contributed immensely to nation-building; this endeavor is solely dedicated to researching, highlighting and archiving the GOAN community's historical background, cultural heritage, significant achievements and contribution to Pakistan, before and after independence.

Profile - Luis John Mascarenhas


Luis John Mascarenhas came to Karachi in 1898 from Goa. Started working for six months
without pay in Karachi Port Trust and in 1930 became First Indian Secretary of Karachi Port
Trust. He received M.B.E (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) Medal
from King George V in 1935.

In 1929, Luis John Mascarenhas, built his house in Catholic Colony 1, and after retirement in
1939 he was on the Board of Directors for Indian Life Assurance Company and on the Board of
Catholic Colony Cooperative Society.

He was one of the founding members of St Lawrence’s Parish. He died in 1972.
